NYC Public Housing Extension
New York, New York, USA
by Douglas Min Yi Lee & Vincent Yee Foo Lai | University of California, Berkeley
UC Berkeley students Douglas Min Yi Lee & Vincent Yee Foo Lai were presented the Kathryn M. Firneis Memorial Award. This award was created to honor the late Kathryn M. Firneis, who was a pillar of the SARA community and worked extensively to help connect architecture students with their future peers and colleagues in the industry. The award was presented by Kathy's husband and long time SARA member, Robert Firneis. Douglas & Vincent's NYC Public Housing Extension, was designed as an affordable, modular and socially driven housing extension prototype for public housing estates in the United States, using Riverton Square Apartments in Harlem as an initial test bed for utilizing existing housing stock to add more housing while providing varying robust public spaces for both new and existing residents.
